Act Now for Autistic Rights at the 2026 Holyrood Election
Ahead of the Scottish Parliament elections in May, we're calling on the Scottish Government to introduce the Learning Disabilities, Autism and Neurodivergence (LDAN) Bill to Parliament as soon as possible.
We want to see change and real action. Introducing the LDAN Bill will help tackle the inequalities autistic people and their families face. We need the Scottish Government to:
Act Now for Diagnosis and Support
Children and young people face waits of months, even years, for an assessment, while autistic adults often struggle to get a referral in the first place. The LDAN Bill would help tackle waiting times through new national and local autism strategies.
Act Now for Accessible Healthcare
Autistic people speak to us about traumatic experiences of denial, misdiagnosis and a general lack of support and understanding, leaving them reluctant to ask for help when they need it. The LDAN Bill would introduce mandatory autism training for health and social care staff to ensure people's needs are recognised.
Act Now for Support in Schools
We hear often from autistic young people about traumatic school experiences and we know many of them end up being absent from school on a long-term basis. The LDAN Bill would introduce mandatory autism training for teachers and school staff so they are better equipped to identify and meet autistic pupils' needs in the classroom.
Act Now for Inclusive Communities
Autistic people face various barriers which can prevent them from being able to participate fully in their communities. The LDAN Bill would help ensure autistic people are able to live independently in communities with clear pathways to support and services.
