Protect Our Benefits

The Government wants to make it harder for disabled people to access vital financial support by changing the rules on who can get benefits such as Personal Independent Payment (PIP) and slashing the rates of Universal Credit (UC) health payments. Hundreds of thousands of autistic people across the UK rely on these vital benefits to support them in daily life.

Will you ask your MP to say NO to these unfair and dangerous proposals? The Government has proposed 5 billion pound cutbacks which could disproportionately impact autistic people both in and out of work. Plus, they're trying to push them through without consulting on the most harmful proposals.

We've seen so many stories in the media which make it sound like claiming PIP is easy and suggesting some autistic claimants don't deserve it. That's just wrong.
Will you help to remind your MP of the facts?

- Over 217,000 autistic people receive PIP for their daily living needs and already face long delays, a lack of understanding and a gruelling assessment system to prove they qualify. These proposals will make the situation for many autistic people much worse.

- PIP is awarded for people in work as well and for some people being able to work is only a possibility because PIP means they can afford necessary basics like therapy to stay well, support to help organise bills and rent, or suitable transport to get to and from work.

The Government aims to get more people into work, but to give people the best chance of finding and staying in work, we need education, health and social care and welfare systems that work. Not punitive measures that will push more disabled people into poverty and unfairly punish autistic people who may never be able to work.

Will you help us speak louder than the misinformation and ask your MP to protect our benefits?
